How much binding for a baby quilt?
Baby quilts are small enough that one fat quarter-sized cut often covers the binding, but it is worth checking before you trim your fabric.
5 strips, 186 in of binding.
3/8 yd at 2 1/2 in wide · 3/8 yd at 2 1/4 in wide.
How it's worked out
- Quilt size: 36 x 52 in, which is a typical 36 x 52 in baby quilt (not a mattress standard).
- Binding length = 2 x (36 + 52) + 10 in for joins and corners = 186 in.
- Strips = 186 ÷ 42 in usable width = 4.43, rounded up to 5.
- Fabric = 5 x 2 1/2 in = 12 1/2 in, rounded up to the next 1/8 yd = 3/8 yd (or 5 x 2 1/4 in = 11 1/4 in = 3/8 yd).
