How much binding for a crib quilt?
A crib quilt sized to the mattress lies flat without hanging over the sides, which is the safer choice for little ones.
5 strips, 170 in of binding.
3/8 yd at 2 1/2 in wide · 3/8 yd at 2 1/4 in wide.
How it's worked out
- Quilt size: 28 x 52 in, which is a quilt the size of a standard 28 x 52 in crib mattress, with no drop.
- Binding length = 2 x (28 + 52) + 10 in for joins and corners = 170 in.
- Strips = 170 ÷ 42 in usable width = 4.05, rounded up to 5.
- Fabric = 5 x 2 1/2 in = 12 1/2 in, rounded up to the next 1/8 yd = 3/8 yd (or 5 x 2 1/4 in = 11 1/4 in = 3/8 yd).
