How much binding for a full quilt?
A full (double) bed is 15 in wider than a twin, which adds noticeably to both the binding and the backing.
9 strips, 360 in of binding.
5/8 yd at 2 1/2 in wide · 5/8 yd at 2 1/4 in wide.
How it's worked out
- Quilt size: 78 x 97 in, which is a full mattress (54 x 75 in) with a 12 in drop on both sides and the foot and a 10 in pillow tuck.
- Binding length = 2 x (78 + 97) + 10 in for joins and corners = 360 in.
- Strips = 360 ÷ 42 in usable width = 8.57, rounded up to 9.
- Fabric = 9 x 2 1/2 in = 22 1/2 in, rounded up to the next 1/8 yd = 5/8 yd (or 9 x 2 1/4 in = 20 1/4 in = 5/8 yd).
