How much binding for a twin quilt?
Twin beds are narrow but long, so a twin quilt with a generous drop ends up longer than most people expect.
8 strips, 330 in of binding.
5/8 yd at 2 1/2 in wide · 1/2 yd at 2 1/4 in wide.
How it's worked out
- Quilt size: 63 x 97 in, which is a twin mattress (39 x 75 in) with a 12 in drop on both sides and the foot and a 10 in pillow tuck.
- Binding length = 2 x (63 + 97) + 10 in for joins and corners = 330 in.
- Strips = 330 ÷ 42 in usable width = 7.86, rounded up to 8.
- Fabric = 8 x 2 1/2 in = 20 in, rounded up to the next 1/8 yd = 5/8 yd (or 8 x 2 1/4 in = 18 in = 1/2 yd).
